UFC Undisputed 2010 (2010) is the sole mixed martial arts (MMA) title released for the PlayStation Portable. Developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ, this handheld port brought the complete, technical fighting system of the home console version (PS3/Xbox 360) onto portable hardware without sacrificing mechanical depth.
🥊 Fighting Styles & Technical Mechanics
Rather than functioning as a button-mashing arcade fighter, UFC Undisputed 2010 forces players to manage stamina, spacing, and martial arts disciplines:
- Swaying & Counter System: Lean away from incoming head strikes to open up high-damage counter-punching opportunities.
- Clinch & Takedowns: Initiate cage work, body locks, and double-leg takedowns to transition fights to the mat.
- Ground Control & Submissions: Rotate the analog nub to execute transitions between positions (Guard, Half Guard, Side Control, Mount). Submissions trigger a button-shining or analog-shine struggle mechanic.
- Stamina & Damage Management: Over-swinging or getting caught in long submission attempts depletes your stamina bar, leaving your fighter vulnerable to instant knockouts (Flash KOs).
🏆 Game Modes
- Career Mode: Create a custom fighter, train at real MMA gyms (like Black House or American Kickboxing Academy), allocate attribute points, manage sparring sessions, and work your way up from minor leagues to the UFC Championship.
- Title & Defense Modes: Fight through a weight division bracket to win the title belt, then defend it across consecutive championship bouts.
- Tournament Mode: Set up 4-, 8-, or 16-man elimination tournaments.
- Ad-Hoc Multiplayer: Local wireless head-to-head matches against another PSP player.
⭐ Short Review: High Mechanical Fidelity, Hardware Limits
The Good
- Incredible Roster & Depth: Features over 100 authentic UFC fighters across 5 weight divisions (including Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, and BJ Penn).
- Uncompromised Gameplay: Successfully translates complex MMA mechanics (clinch, ground transitions, submission defense) to PSP controls without stripping away features.
The Bad
- Steep Learning Curve: Managing ground transitions and submission escapes using single-analog inputs requires significant practice compared to console controllers.
- Frequent Load Times: Transitioning between menus, fight entrances, and round resets involves long loading breaks.
