Half-Minute Hero (2009) is a fast-paced, genre-bending cult classic that parodies the tropes of traditional RPGs. It’s famous for its high-energy “30-second” loop and its charming retro 8-bit aesthetic, backed by a surprisingly epic rock soundtrack.
Game Story & Premise
The game is split into distinct eras spanning 500 years, all revolving around a recurring “Spell of Destruction” that ends the world in just 30 seconds.

The Narrative Loop
You primarily play as a Hero who makes a deal with the Time Goddess. She agrees to turn back time for you, but only if you pay her—every time you reset the clock to 30 seconds, the price increases. The story weaves together the fates of a Hero, an Evil Lord, a Princess, and a Knight across centuries to stop a god-like threat.

The game features a massive amount of content that unlocks as you progress through the timeline.

Secret “Town Warping” & Tips

The Town Warp: You can enter a town without walking the final tile by tapping X while positioned 1 or 2 tiles away and facing it. This saves roughly 0.15 seconds—precious time in this game.

Goddess Greed: If you run out of money and time simultaneously, the Goddess will take your equipment as collateral instead of ending the game.
