Tony Hawk’s Underground 2: Remix (2005) is often hailed as one of the best “Day One” titles for the PSP. While most handheld ports of the time were stripped-down versions of console games, Remix was actually the opposite—it contained everything from the PS2 version plus a massive amount of exclusive content, making it arguably the superior way to play THUG 2.

The “Remix” Content: What’s New?

The PSP version includes four exclusive levels that were not in the original console release. These levels were so well-received they were later added to Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland.

1. Santa Cruz: A massive beachside level with a boardwalk, pier, and a lighthouse.

2. Atlanta: A night-time city level featuring the Georgia Dome and a dense urban layout.

3. Kyoto: A beautiful Japanese level with traditional temples and high-tech skyscrapers.

4. Las Vegas: A neon-soaked strip with casinos, fountains, and rooftops.

Story Expansion: These levels are fully integrated into the World Destruction Tour, meaning the story is longer, features new cutscenes, and includes more objectives than the original game.

Story Mode Unlocks

• Shrek & Space Monkey: Beat Story Mode on Easy.

• Paulie Ryan & The Hand: Beat Story Mode on Normal.

• Call of Duty Soldier & Nigel Beaverhausen: Beat Story Mode on Sick.

• Classic Levels: Beating Story Mode on Normal also unlocks retro levels like School (THPS1) and Canada (THPS3).

Classic Mode Unlocks

• Steve-O: Beat Classic Mode on Normal.

• Natas Kaupas & Jesse James: Beat Classic Mode on Sick.

• Cheat Menu Video: Collect every single “Gap” in the game to unlock a secret movie that lists more cheats.

Key Features

• Face Mapping: One of the PSP’s early tech showcases. You could upload a photo of yourself from your Memory Stick and “wrap” it onto your custom skater’s head.

• Classic Mode: Features 15 levels (including the 4 new ones) where you play the old-school 2-minute timer with goals like “Collect S-K-A-T-E” and “Find the Secret Tape.”

• Full Soundtrack: Every single song from the console version (50+ tracks) is included, featuring artists like The Doors, The Stooges, and Slayer.

• Wireless Multiplayer: Supports up to 4 players in classic modes like Graffiti, Horse, and Trick Attack.

Short Review: The Gold Standard of Ports

The Good

• Zero Compromises: This is not a “lite” version. It has the same physics, graphics engine, and gameplay depth as the PS2.

• Incredible Longevity: With the added levels and Classic Mode, you could easily spend 50+ hours trying to 100% everything.

• Technical Marvel: It proved right at the PSP’s launch that the handheld could handle a high-fidelity console experience without stuttering.

The Bad

• The “Analog Nub”: The game is much easier to play using the D-Pad for tricks, as the PSP’s sliding analog nub can be slippery for complex inputs.

• Missing Park Creator: Sadly, the “Create-a-Park” mode was removed to fit all the other content onto the UMD.
