Justice League Heroes (2006) is an isometric action-RPG that follows the template set by the X-Men Legends and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series. Developed by Snowblind Studios, it allows you to control the world’s most iconic DC superheroes in a cooperative battle to save Earth from a cosmic threat.

Game Story & Premise

The story was written by the late Dwayne McDuffie, a legendary writer for the Justice League animated series and the creator of Static Shock.

Back Cover Description:

“Earth’s greatest DC Super Heroes join forces for the first time in an epic action-adventure! Brainiac has launched a worldwide assault, but he is merely the vanguard for a much more sinister power. Take control of the Justice League—including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern—to thwart a catastrophic threat to humanity.Customize your heroes with an innovative ‘Boost’ system to enhance their superpowers. Whether you’re flying through Metropolis or battling in the depths of Mars, the fate of the planet rests in your hands. Unite the League. Save the World.”

The Plot:

The game begins with the League defending Metropolis from Brainiac’s robots. As the investigation deepens, the heroes realize that several villains—including Killer Frost, Gorilla Grodd, and Queen Bee—are working together. Eventually, it is revealed that the true mastermind is Darkseid, who plans to use a Mother Box to transform Earth into a new Apokolips.

Secret Codes & Unlocks

Unlockable Heroes (Non-Cheat)

If you prefer to earn your roster, you can buy these characters in the “League Sanctuary” using Shield Tokens found in levels:

  • Aquaman

  • Green Arrow

  • Hawkgirl

  • Huntress

  • Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner / John Stewart skins)

Key Gameplay Features

  • The Boost System: Instead of standard “leveling up,” you collect “Boosts” (Strength, Range, Efficiency, Speed, etc.). You plug these into your hero’s individual powers to customize them. For example, you can make Batman’s Batarang hit harder or travel further.

  • Team Dynamics: Most missions force you to play as a specific duo (e.g., Batman and Zatanna), though later levels allow you to pick your own team.

  • Destructible Environments: You can pick up cars, pillars, and crates to throw at enemies, which is particularly satisfying when playing as Superman or Wonder Woman.

  • PSP Exclusive Features: The PSP version features localized Ad-Hoc multiplayer for 2-player co-op, which is remarkably smooth for a 2006 handheld title.

Short Review: The Handheld League

The Good

  • Authentic Dialogue: Because Dwayne McDuffie wrote the script, the character interactions feel exactly like the beloved Justice League Unlimited cartoon.

  • Power Variety: Every hero feels distinct. The Flash is incredibly fast, while Zatanna uses complex magic spells that offer a different tactical feel.

  • Visuals: The character models are sharp and look great on the PSP screen, especially the lighting effects from Green Lantern’s constructs.

The Bad

  • Linearity: The levels are mostly “hallways” filled with enemies, which can feel repetitive after several hours.

  • No Free-Roaming: You cannot fly freely in open environments; flight is mostly used for hovering over gaps or moving slightly faster during combat.
