Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 (2005) was the PSP-exclusive companion to the legendary console title. The “5-1-0” in the title is police code for street racing. While it shares the “Blacklist” theme with its big brother, it was built specifically for handheld play with a streamlined, event-to-event progression rather than an open-world city.
Game Story & Premise
You are a street racer arriving in a new city with one goal: to become the most notorious driver on the streets. However, the path to the top is blocked by the Blacklist—a group of 15 elite racers who rule the underground scene.
The Plot: To climb the ranks, you must win races to earn “Respect” and “Cash.” Respect allows you to challenge the Blacklist members one by one. While the console version featured a cinematic revenge plot involving a stolen BMW M3 GTR, the PSP version focuses purely on the hierarchy, where you must defeat anonymous but highly skilled rivals to prove you are the ultimate “Most Wanted” driver while constantly evading an aggressive police force.

Key Gameplay Features
-
The Blacklist 15: The core of the game is a ladder system. You must complete a series of events to unlock a 1-on-1 boss race against the next Blacklist member.
-
Streamlined Progression: To suit mobile gaming, the open-world free-roam from the console version was replaced with a quick, menu-based event selector.
-
Heat Levels: As you race and break the law, your “Heat” increases. Higher heat levels bring out tougher police units, faster cruisers, and more frequent roadblocks.
-
Speedbreaker: A slow-motion mechanic that allows you to take tight corners at high speeds or navigate through narrow gaps in police blockades.
-
Customization: Similar to Underground, you can modify your car’s engine, transmission, and tires, or give it a custom look with body kits, spoilers, and vinyls.

The Good
-
Perfect for Travel: The “event-based” structure means you can finish a race in 3–5 minutes, making it ideal for quick sessions.
-
Visuals: At the time of release, it was one of the best-looking games on the PSP, featuring impressive car models and lighting effects.
-
Police AI: The chases are genuinely tense, as the AI is quite aggressive and will actively try to box you in.
The Bad
-
No Free Roam: Fans who loved exploring the city of Rockport on PS2/PC often found the lack of an open world disappointing.
-
Less Story: The lack of live-action cutscenes and the “Razor” storyline makes the progression feel a bit more clinical and menu-heavy.
