Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (2006) is an enhanced PlayStation Portable port of tri-Ace's legendary 1999 PlayStation RPG classic. Published by Square Enix, this handheld version retains the original's acclaimed mix of Norse mythology, 2D platform exploration, and rhythm-based combat while adding fully animated CGI cutscenes and widescreen presentation.

⚔️ Story & Premise: Preparing for Ragnarok

As Ragnarok—the end of the world—looms over the realms, the All-Father Odin awakens Lenneth Valkyrie, one of the three Goddesses of Destiny. Lenneth is tasked with descending to Midgard (the mortal realm) to collect the souls of heroic fallen warriors (Einherjar).

You must harvest their tragic memories at the moment of death, train them in combat, and transfer them to Valhalla to assist the Aesir gods in their apocalyptic war against the Vanir and demons.

⚙️ Core Mechanics & Periodic Progression

Time Management (Periods & Chapters): The campaign is structured into 8 Chapters, each containing a set number of "Periods." Performing actions—such as spiritual concentrating to find dying heroes, entering dungeons, or resting—consumes Periods. You must manage your time carefully before the chapter ends and Odin evaluates your offerings.

Einherjar Management: You train recruited souls by equipping gear, raising their Hero Values, and teaching them traits requested by the gods before sending them up to Valhalla.

Unique Button-Mapped Combat: In battle, each of your 4 party members is mapped to one of the PSP's face buttons. Pressing their corresponding button triggers an attack. Timing inputs together launches enemies into the air, ground-bounces them, and builds the Hit Gauge to unleash devastating Purify Weird Soul special attacks.2D Platforming & Crystal Mechanics: Exploration takes place on a 2D side-scrolling plane where Lenneth can jump, slide, and shoot Crystals into walls to freeze enemies, build temporary platforms, or solve environmental puzzles.

⭐ Short Review:
A Masterpiece of Melancholy & CombatThe GoodIncredible Combat System:
The combo-linking battle mechanics remain among the most satisfying, fluid, and deep combat systems in JRPG history.
Story & Soundtrack: Features a deeply tragic narrative structure backed by Motoi Sakuraba's magnificent score.
Multiple Endings: Includes three distinct endings (A, B, and C), with the canonical "A Ending" requiring precise secret steps.

The Bad
True Ending Requirements: Triggering the best ending (Ending A) is virtually impossible without a strategy guide due to unintuitive hidden prerequisites.Uncompressed Audio/Minor Stretch: Some voice clips from the PS1 original sound slightly compressed, and 2D sprites are stretched to fit the 16:9 widescreen format.
