Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Predator (2010) is an exclusive handheld installment in the Ghost Recon franchise developed by Virtuos and published by Ubisoft. Unlike earlier top-down PSP entries like GRAW 2, Predator returns the series to its roots as a tactical third-person squad-based shooter, utilizing a camera style and movement system very similar to Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter on home consoles.

🇱🇰 Story & Setting: Deep in the Jungle

Set in the dense, tropical jungles of Sri Lanka Click to open side panel for more information , the campaign follows an elite squad of US Army Ghosts—including veteran operators like Captain Scott Mitchell.

The team is deployed to clear the way for a US invasion force after rogue insurgents attack US naval vessels. However, as the Ghosts push deeper into enemy territory, they uncover a massive conspiracy: the attack was framed by an elusive rogue military group known as the “Predators,” who are manipulating international politics to ignite a full-scale regional war.

⚙️ Core Gameplay & Mechanics

  • Third-Person Over-the-Shoulder Action: The game features a classic third-person perspective with an active cover system. Sliding into cover behind walls, rocks, or sandbags is essential to surviving firefights.
  • Squad Command Interface: You lead a 3-man fireteam. Simple directional pad inputs allow you to order squadmates to hold position, flank enemy encampments, suppress targets, or advance.
  • Seamless Character Swapping: At any point during a mission, you can instantly switch control between your three squad members—allowing you to take direct control of a sniper for long-range takedowns, a heavy gunner for suppression, or an assault rifleman for room clearing.
  • Weapon Loadout Customization: Before every mission, you can customize your squad’s primary and secondary weapons, attachments (suppressors, scopes, grenade launchers), and body armor levels to match the tactical requirements of the terrain.

⭐ Short Review: Impressive Handheld Tactical Shooter

The Good

  • Console-Style Tactical Vibe: Successfully captures the feel of a full console Ghost Recon game on the PSP, featuring solid third-person cover mechanics and squad swapping.
  • Co-Op Campaign: Supports up to 3-player local Ad-Hoc co-op, allowing you and two friends to play through the entire campaign together.

The Bad

  • PSP Camera Constraints: Aiming and camera adjustment require using the PSP’s face buttons (or shoulder button locks), which can feel stiff compared to dual-analog console controllers.
  • Predictable Enemy AI: Enemies tend to follow fixed patrol routes or remain glued to static cover positions during firefights.
