Adventures to Go! (2009) is a quirky, budget-friendly Tactical RPG that feels like a cross between a dungeon crawler and a business simulation. Developed by Global A Entertainment (the team behind My World, My Way), it was published in the West by Natsume and is known for its meta-humor and unique “made-to-order” adventure system.

The Hero: Finn Courtland

You play as Finn, a young, lazy adventurer who is primarily motivated by one thing: money. His family is struggling, so he teams up with a band of misfits (including a bossy mage named Alina and a brawny knight named Garron) to take on odd jobs and strike it rich.

Game Description: “Dungeons on Demand”

The core hook of Adventures to Go! is that you don’t actually go out and find dungeons; you pay a receptionist to conjure them for you based on your specific needs.

Key Features:

  • The Customization Desk: Before a mission, you talk to Karla at the “Adventures to Go” counter. You can pay to set the dungeon’s terrain (forest, desert, etc.), the monster types, and even the size of the map. This is essential for completing “Citizen Quests” that require specific monster drops.

  • Grid-Based Combat: Battles take place on a tactical grid. It uses an Action Point (AP) system where moving, attacking, and using items all drain your meter. If you use all your AP on offense, you’ll be left defenseless during the enemy’s turn.

  • Spell Crystals: There is no traditional MP. Instead, you find or buy “Shards” and fuse them together to create magic crystals. You equip these crystals to your characters, but they only have a limited number of “charges” per day.

  • Self-Aware Humor: The game constantly breaks the fourth wall. Finn often complains about being the protagonist, and the game mocks classic RPG tropes like “random encounters” and “save-the-world” plot twists.

Short Review: Breezy But Repetitive

The Good

  • Perfect for Handheld: The missions are short (usually 10–15 minutes), making it a great “pick-up-and-play” game for commutes.

  • Smart Strategy: The AP system requires actual thought. Managing your “Ambush” and “Defend” stances is the difference between an easy victory and a party wipe.

  • Charming Script: The dialogue is genuinely funny. If you like JRPGs that don’t take themselves too seriously, the banter between Finn and Alina is a highlight.

The Bad

  • Visual Repetition: Because the dungeons are randomly generated based on tiles, they all start to look identical very quickly. The environments are colorful but bland.

  • The Grind: To get the best gear, you have to do a lot of fetch quests. If you don’t enjoy the core combat loop, the game can feel like a “to-do list” rather than an adventure.

  • Static Town: You never actually “explore” the town; you just click on icons in a menu to move between the shop, the office, and the dungeon desk.
