Ben 10: Protector of Earth (2007) is arguably the most nostalgic entry in the Ben 10 gaming franchise. Developed by High Voltage Software, it captures the “Classic” era of the show perfectly, focusing on a road trip across the USA while fighting off Vilgax’s drones and classic villains like Kevin 11 and Dr. Animo.
The Roster: Ben’s Alien Arsenal
Each alien serves a specific purpose for both combat and environmental puzzles:
-
Four Arms: The heavy hitter. Used for breaking through walls, throwing massive objects, and high-damage melee combos.
-
Heatblast: The ranged specialist. Can double-jump using fire blasts and melt obstacles; best for picking off flying drones.
-
XLR8: The speedster. Vital for timed puzzles (slowing down time) and performing rapid-fire “hit and run” attacks.
-
Cannonbolt: The wrecking ball. His rolling attack is the best for clearing crowds and traversing steep ramps.
-
Wildvine: The utility expert. Uses vines to grapple across gaps and performs wide-range whip attacks.
Key Features: Hero Time
-
Master Control: The ultimate unlockable. Once activated, it removes the Omnitrix timeout entirely, allowing you to stay as an alien indefinitely and switch between forms instantly without reverting to Ben.
-
Combo System: By collecting Omnitrix Points (yellow orbs), you can buy over 80 different combos. This adds a surprising amount of depth—Heatblast’s “Meteor Slam” and Four Arms’ “Tornado” are total game-changers.
-
Sumo Slammer Cards: There are 3 hidden cards in every main level. Collecting them unlocks “Secrets” in the menu, including concept art and model viewers.

Short Review: Pure Cartoon Fun
The Good
-
Authenticity: Features the original voice cast and a script that feels exactly like an episode of the 2005 cartoon.
-
Smooth Performance: For a 3D brawler on the PSP, the framerate stays remarkably consistent even when the screen is full of drones.
-
Progression: Unlocking a new alien after a major boss fight feels incredibly rewarding and changes how you explore previous levels.
The Bad
-
Repetitive Combat: If you don’t spend your points on new combos, the “Square, Square, Triangle” routine can get old by the third region.
-
Camera Issues: The fixed camera can occasionally make platforming (especially with Wildvine’s swinging) frustrating.
-
Missing Aliens: No Diamondhead or Ghostfreak in the main roster was a heartbreak for many fans at launch.
